How AI is used — and how it's checked

We use AI to read receipts and categorize transactions. Here's exactly what that means for your data and accuracy.

Does AI have access to my bank account?
No. Numerly never connects directly to your bank. You upload documents — receipts, PDFs, CSV exports — and AI reads those files. We have no login credentials for your financial institutions.
Is my data sent to OpenAI or other AI companies?
Numerly uses the Anthropic Claude API to process receipt images and documents. Document content is sent to Anthropic's API for analysis only — Anthropic does not store or train on API data per their data processing agreement. No data is sent to OpenAI, Google, or other providers.
What if the AI categorizes something incorrectly?
The AI assigns a confidence score to every transaction. Anything below 85% confidence is automatically flagged for your accountant to review. Your accountant also reviews all transactions before any filing goes to CRA. The AI makes bookkeeping fast — your accountant makes it accurate.
Can I see what the AI did with my documents?
Yes. Your portal shows every transaction, its category, and its status (AI-processed, accountant-reviewed, approved). There's a full audit trail of every change made to your books — by AI or by your accountant.
The most important thing to understand about AI at Numerly
AI is a tool used by your accountant — not a replacement for them. Think of it like a calculator: fast, consistent, and good at repetitive work. But a professional is still responsible for the result. Nothing is submitted to CRA without your accountant reviewing and approving it first.

Your dedicated accountant

Every Numerly client is assigned a real, vetted accountant. They review your books monthly, check every filing before it goes to CRA, and are available to answer questions. You can message them directly from your portal.

All Numerly accountants sign confidentiality agreements and are subject to the same professional standards as any accounting firm.

CRA filings and your data

What data does Numerly send to CRA?
Only the data required for the specific filing — GST return amounts, T4 slip information, T1/T2 figures. We send exactly what CRA requires for each form, nothing more. Your accountant reviews the submission before it goes.
Can I see what was filed before it's submitted?
Yes. Your accountant prepares the filing and you receive a summary to review before anything is sent to CRA. You must confirm before submission. This is standard practice and a hard requirement at Numerly — no surprises.
How long do you keep my data?
CRA requires businesses to keep records for 6 years. Numerly retains your data for 7 years to be safe. After that, it's purged from our servers. You can request early deletion at any time for data not subject to CRA retention requirements.
